I had NO idea this was a thing, until I saw it on another forum in a thread called "worst automotive trends". I think this is really a regional thing, primarily int he south.
Behold,
CAROLINA SQUAT!

I'm too hillbilly to recognize this as a thing. Must be those damn piedmonters.

Oh, that's the last fucking straw.
![]() 04/22/2014 at 16:44 |

ridiculous. Hope someone has figured out how to aim the damn headlights or someone is going to get knocked the fuck out

When I first put the lift on my Cruiser I was only able to do the front end the first weekend. Drove around like this for a week before I could do the rear. I think I'd take this over stance purely because of the vehicle itself. I mean I guess it kinda looks like you have a load in the back?
![]() 04/22/2014 at 16:45 |

Good God. That's stupid.
Exactly what is the point of doing that? I see no logical purpose, Nor do I see any other function. Besides of course, making it look like an old Lincoln with broken air suspension.

Fridgin and ramblin?
Can anybody else read that?
04/22/2014 at 16:47 |

I think this still takes the cake.

This is the "ruined-Matchbox-car-rear-suspension-look" after my stupid cousins played with my toys. :-(
And I hate it!
![]() 04/22/2014 at 16:57 |

So I guess they really liked the broken rear air suspension on 90s K cars.

Number one, nice spelling in the title. Number 2, isn't this kind of like the west coast brodozers? (PS Brodozer is one of my favorite words. I always look for excuses to use it)

I hadn't seen this particular abomination until I spent last week in and around Atlanta. This is a valid argument for militarizing the Mason-Dixon line...

![]() 04/22/2014 at 17:20 |

I might have to make this a thing, just for Jalopponauts to hate

co-woker's Tacoma's been like this for 7 years. He got a lift kit on the front.....and that's it.
![]() 04/22/2014 at 17:22 |

I'm pretty sure he just forgot to install rear shocks that day.

are you in or near one of the carolinas?
![]() 04/22/2014 at 17:38 |

Well, at least these owners will have to fend off endless people pointing out that their rear suspension is collapsed.

![]() 04/22/2014 at 22:29 |

It's kind of the reverse of that trend of taking a classic pickup and lowering only the front.

It looks like they're dogs squatting down to pee...

LX base with no rear air ride?
![]() 04/23/2014 at 16:17 |
|
Yea no air ride but the springs are just worn after 130k. Civilian model so the spring rate is a little on the softer side from the factory
![]() 04/23/2014 at 16:36 |
|
Yes.
![]() 04/23/2014 at 16:39 |

And how often does he take it offroad?
![]() 04/23/2014 at 16:41 |
|
Jumped the curb once to do a U turn, that I remember.
![]() 04/23/2014 at 16:41 |
|
Yup, that's what I figured. :)
![]() 04/23/2014 at 18:08 |

This was a thing with cars in the early 60's too. Gassers with a high center of gravity hooked better at the strip. Then it was emulated by streetcar guys that dialed out their ignition advance on an otherwise stock car to give it a rough cammy idle. Didnt matter to them that they were slower. Kind of like a 4wd truck that doesnt offroad.

Totally just found a link to this today. . . But, this shit has been around forever in SoCal with the fiberglass fenders and the “prerunner” look. It is to feign that baja offroad racing trophy truck look. . .

Those are extreme examples, but we’ve had this in Florida for years. It’s called ‘bulldogging.’

Did those wheel covers come off a chariot from Ben Hur?
![]() 06/16/2015 at 05:35 |

I get why this is ridiculous, but stick some drag radials at the back and some frontrunners on the front and you’ve got a gasser truck:

Think of all those people rolling around in Navigators with failed rear air suspensions who are now going to be mistaken for squatters.
